I would like to know when is the best time for burning calories. Is it while walking, running, weight lifting or is there a specific time when your body burns more calories than any other time?
My Answer
You must understand what "burning calories" is.
It's the process whereby your body's metabolic rate is hiked up to higher levels, causing it (your body) to generate and expense off energy, in terms of calories.
If you've a high metabolic rate, you burn off more calories. If you've a lower metabolic rate, you burn off lesser calories.
This calorie-burning process would be most active when you:
1. Exercise - not any exercise; it needs to be cardio exercise as it's the most direct and most powerful way to increase your metabolic rate to higher levels, to help you burn more calories.
2. Do high intensity exercise like high impact running, walking, swimming, dancing, jumping rope and etc.
3. Have more lean muscle mass in your body. Lean muscle mass burns off calories 3 times faster (than fat does) and helps raise your BMR (basal metabolic rate i.e. you burn off calories even while at rest and just doing your daily normal activities), which is the channel through which you burn off most chunk of your calories (60-70% of total calories) in a day.
As long as you engage in exercise or you've high BMR, you would burn off calories. There is no so called specific "best time" for burning calories -like you burn more in the morning; burn less in the afternoon or burn even less in the evening.
