Ah.........The Low Calories In Wine
Do You Count Them In........

In your Daily Calorie Intake? How Many Calories in Wine per Drink?

Or you think drinking wine doesn't bring on the calories?

Whoa, how nice if it's that!

Truth is, drinking "cost" you many calories and drinking wine "cost" you around 100 calories per glass; that is if you use the right size wine glass (a 4-ounce glass).

100 calories per glass, no big deal, right? The problem is we drink more than just 1 glass; we drink several a day and for regular drinkers, 3 - 5 glasses a day are "normal" stuff....So the calories stack up fast......

But one stark fact about calories in wine - they are fewer than other alcoholic drinks, e.g. beers .

Still, we got to recognize the fact that some calories are easier to burn while others are easier to store. And sad to tell you, wine calories belong to the latter.

Wine comes from fruit which is a type of sugar; though the sugar is natural and healthy, once the fruit's fermented, the sugar content increases and becomes more fructose-like than its original form.

It's harder for you to burn off the calories in this form of sugar.

The safest bet? Drink 1 or 2 glasses per day; low calories hence "easier" to burn off. And you don't need major changes in your diet, to make room for wine.

Just keep track of your basic consumption of food and adjust by about 100 calories for each glass of wine you want to drink.

Unless you're a continual and habitual wine drinker, your daily food consumption really shouldn’t suffer due to the wine consumption.

Don't skip meals though to keep calories down in order to make room for more wines. Your effort could backfire.

In fact, it's likely to raise your overall calories because wine, like any form of alcohol, lowers blood glucose levels and tells the brain to signal to your body that you're hungry.

You then drink more and your calories count climb up.

wine contains up to 15% alcohol by volume and alcohol contains a hefty 7 calories per gram (not far from fat which contains 9 calories per gram!).

The more alcohol a wine contains the more calories that wine contains.

The sugar too. It's the culprit that causes the extra calories. The higher the sugar content, the more calories the wine contains.

The Calories do Stack up

OK, I've cleared all the basic stuff about calories in wine. Let's see how the calories stack up, for different types of wines.

You can Easily Fit Wine into a Healthy Diet, if you Drink only 1 or 2 Glasses

How? Exercise more or cut out 1 regular soda or fried chicken from your daily diet and you cancel out the calories.

Don't fall into the trap that since calories in wine are pretty low, you don't count wine in your daily calorie intake.

Hey! An extra of 100 calories per day adds 700 calories per week or 36,400 calories per year which equals to you gaining 10.4 lbs in weight, if you don't compensate by eating less or exercising more or do both ........

(Note: 1 lb = 3,500 calories)

The key is to drink wine in moderation.

What then is "moderation"? Well, the rule of thumb says that it's 1 or 2 glasses a day for women and 2 or 3 glasees a day for men.

Experts say you would benefit lots drinking this "moderate" amount as wine may help you to regulate cholesterol, prevent ulcers, colorectal cancer and diabetes.

Moderate drinking can calm anxiety, aid digestion and stimulate appetite.

Red wine in particular is good as it appears to protect your heart and the specific flavanoids in red wine grapes (known as catechins) seem to act as antioxidants and protect your body’s cells from damage.

In moderation or in abundance, the calories in wine though low, can make a difference in your weight.

If you aren't careful with the calories, drinking a few glasses a day adds up to a few hundred more calories, giving you a few extra lbs over time.

Really, you should account for the calories consumed whenever you raise your glass........
