Cardio and Toning

I just joined a gym. I go 3-4 times per week. I do straight cardio for an hour 2 days (elliptical machine, treadmill and bike) and toning on free weights 1 or 2 times a week (depending on if I go to the gym 3 or 4 times that week). Do you think this would get me results in 2 months.

My Answer

It would.

However, it would be better if you could schedule it in such a way that you do both cardio and toning on the same day i.e. after the cardio, do the toning as well.

The reason?

It's this - after you've sweated through your cardio, you really warmed-up your body; your blood's now circulating to all your major working muscles and your cells breathing-in oxygen.

This would be the best time to take advantage of if you jump straight into toning your muscles. The muscles would be more pliable to the toning workouts. You get better results out of the workouts.

I know you could be pressing for time (that's why you separate out the cardio and toning workouts - 2 days just purely on cardio and 1 or 2 days just purely on toning).

One way you could get to workout both cardio and toning on the same day is this - cut short your cardio workout from 1 hour to 40 minutes per session and use the 20 minutes saved for toning.

Now, since in 1 hour you've to workout both, the way to maximize it would be to do higher intensity cardio and toning, which not only helps to offset the shorter time but also get you to burn off calories, to lose weight and build lean muscle mass, at the same time.

Follow like this, you could then schedule to exercise 3-4 times per week, for 1 hour per session, doing both cardio and toning. And you get to workout more as well.

Try it.

Which can remove cellulite perfectly?
by: San

I'm a 24-year old female, 5'5" and 130 lbs. I've cellulite in arms, thighs, legs, belly, back, waist and all over the body.

I've a lazy life style all the last year I think. Now I'm 130 lbs; that means increasing 12 lbs in the last one month. Currently, I try yoga and other cellulite-removing exercises but they are not working.

I'm also using carbohydrate blocker pills before eating at night because I eat rice or oat meal before sleeping. I've hyper acidity in my stomach, so I must eat at night and in early morning before doing exercises. And I take bio-chromium pill to lose weight.

Can cardio remove cellulite completely? If not, what can I do? Please guide me to lose weight and cellulite altogether without going to gym and I don't want big muscles!

My Answer

I would like to kill this myth regarding cellulite - that exercise (cardio)could help to remove the cellulite completely.

No, it can't. It could only make the appearance of cellulite less apparent. It could not remove completely the cellulite, especially when you've already have it.

Diet, a healthy well-balanced nutritious diet with lower levels of fats, oils, sugar and carbohydrate is as important as exercise to control the onset of cellulite.

I've written a page on cellulite and exercise which I think can help you understand what exercise can and cannot do in regards to cellulite.

I would also think that it's not a good thing to take diet pill to lose weight. You never know what chemicals are in the pills, which could cause irreparable damages to your internal organs and body and ultimately, your health.

Stop the diet pills. Go for the exercise and a healthy diet. You'll experience positive benefits from this combo.

I encourage you to read all the exercise and fitness info on my site to get a balanced, non-commercialized view on this often misguided subject.
