Need "Gym Motivation" To Get Your Gym Exercise Program Going?
The Grinds of Going to Gym, for me at least
How to avoid some common mistakes when go for gym exercise program? How to choose a "dream gym" to suit your purpose?
We'll have all these sorted out in a sec.
Right.... you need to go to gym to exercise, a sort of a "kick-in-the butt" thing for you to move - to exercise.
You're that kind of person who needs the environment and make up of a gym so you feel you can glide through exercise smoothly and efficiently.......
You definitely are sure you can't strike it out on your own exercising in your home gym because you need to be pushed, shoved and kicked into action.....and you absolutely loath to exercise ALONE!!!!
So you bang on the gym - you reckon it's "The Place" that can motivate you to exercise, stay put in it and achieve effective results.......
Well, if you're that, you'd want to know that to adhere to a gym exercise program, be it cardio workout or strength training , MOTIVATION is the buzz word!
The Gym Motivation
Bless you! You thought a gym by itself plus the money you've dished out for the membership will be enough to stir you into action?
Wrong!
Been there. Done that.
I was totally optimistic when I first signed up a gym exercise program, thinking: "Well, some how or rather, the gym and the membership fee (not cheap, mind you!) I've paid, the 2 would surely move me into action...."
It was a total flop for me.
I struggled real hard to make it to the gym every time.
Why?
Because the so called "gym motivation" was hard coming by as I had to make time in my busy schedule to go to gym.
I tried made time in the morning, then couldn't make it, pushed it to the evening, still couldn't make it, delayed it to the next day and the whole "push & delay" thing repeated....
I was so tired after repeated times of failing to make to the gym.....I took the easy way out - I simply quit!
Talking of gym as an inspirational place for me to exercise, how sad!.....And the money I've spent? Though it ached my heart, I was powerless to do anything to recoup it.
Then I realized that getting the motivation to go to gym must come from within myself, which, sad to say, I didn't have because my heart wasn't tied to the gym exercise program!
Plus I was having a real hard time PRIOR to going to gym. I don't know whether you experienced this as well?
....Sigh......The sheer idea of putting on my exercise whole works (workout clothing, shoes, my workout bag), getting into the car, driving there, wait for my turn to workout on machines, wait for scheduled exercise classes to start.....
You could be a person that fits snugly into the gym exercise program and its environment, set-up, routine and operation.
All you need is to have motivation, which I was ignorant about and didn't know what to do then as nobody was at hand to enlighten me (I'm serious)......
For you, motivation is already built in if you like a gym set-up and you're comfortable in it.
Hurray for you! Gym exercise program will work for you then.
Still, don't feel overjoy yet.
There are mistakes that you could have done in a gym without you knowing them, which can affect your exercise results.
The "No No" Things in a Gym Exercise Program
You would be wondering how in the world I know these "NO NOs" since gym workout wasn't for me?
Ah!....the few times I was able to make it to the gym, I observed gym-goers' behavior and habit.......
And concise them here.
OK, let's shoot.
Have you realized that you've reached a plateau in your exercise workout in the gym?
Like no matter how hard you strength-train, you don't see increases in muscle strength? Or no matter how hard you cardio, you don't see yourself getting to the body weight you want?
According to the American Council on Exercise, most people make mistakes while doing gym exercise program without even knowing them. Mistakes that could affect your results and could cause you injury.
If you avoid some of the most common gym "No No", you can see improvement quickly.
Try to avoid these mistakes:
Don't start randomly without any real idea, instead have a set plan. Begin with a 5-minute of warm up , then do 20 to 30 minutes of cardio, with strength training at an interval of 2 to 3 times per week
When you strength-train, don't use improper form, which can lead to injury. Like, when you're lifting heavy weights, you should do a full range of motion when you lift. Don't be shy, get a personal trainer at the gym to correct your bad form
Once you establish a regular workout routine, don't just stick to it, change it. The mistake is that if we like the routine, we tend not to change it.
So if you feel you've peaked on exercise machines, try using weights to stimulate your metabolism. Take Pilates class. I'm sure you've experienced this - peaking on any gym exercise program, you feel burnout or worse, boredom?
When faced with boredom, do you usually stop going to gym altogether, or you start to focus on things other than your exercise?
You know, watch TV, talk on cell phones, read a magazine or book while working out, hoping to make the time pass by quickly.
Don't! All these "diversions" slow you down and affect the quality of your exercise, according to experts. Focus on what you're doing. To avoid boredom, music is a good aid to help your exercise more fun and stimulating
Another condition that'll affect your gym exercise program is dehydration as according to experts, with no proper nutrition and water intake, it's hard to have a great exercise workout as your body needs water or fluids to build muscle and repair damaged tissue.
So drink water every 15 minutes throughout your workout to counter dehydration and fatigue
Gym is also a social place thronged with gym-goers. It's only natural you want to get to know some fantastic and fab-looking guys and girls.
Hmm.....Believe it or not, socializing, flirting or talking to the person next to you while exercising can affect your exercise results......Because you aren't concentrating! Hey, plenty of time to socialize after gym .....
You've finished your workout! Hurray! But wait! Don't just head straight for the shower! Cool down first, your heart and body will thank you for that!
When you exercise, moderation should be your key. Don't over-exercise. Take breaks and make gradual progression. Don't exercise more than 1 hour per session
Don't try to emulate others in the gym! I know, especially when you're new to exercise. Well, get a trainer to help customize a program for you which will work for you
Adjust the machines to fit your body size. Learn how to operate each machine so that you can avoid injury and get the results you want
Exercise when the time is right for you. If you're more active at 6 a.m., then work out during this time belt when your body is most receptive
Choose a Right Gym
Though I'm not big gym fan, I can still relate to the most startling fact about gym exercise program - i.e. the choosing of a gym, a right one, can be "The Clincher" to all things you do about your exercise program!
You see, a right gym, a comfortable one and one that you feel "at home" with, pulls you to go exercise rather than repels you!
That, in itself, is the gym motivation for you!
You want to know how to get a "dream gym" like that?
Easy. Follow these "tried and true" ways:
Get a gym that's near your place of work or near your home as location makes all the difference in whether you can be regular and consistent in your gym exercise program
Do some research and some asking around to find out the qualifications of the gym's personal trainers, their availabilities and their willingness to coach you. When you first start out gym exercise program, best for you to seek the trainers' professional guidance
Make sure the gym's hours match with your schedule and availability. Visit the gym when you expect to exercise and observe the scene.
Take note of how long you and other gym-goers need to wait for weights and cardio equipment, for exercise classes to start.... This would help you to schedule an effective training period and to avoid the busy peak times
Make sure you feel comfortable with the rest of gym members. You'll feel comfortable training with members of similar ages and interests.
So the best way to get a feel for who you'll be sharing the exercise space is to visit the gym at hours when you'll be exercising
Have Fun in your Gym Workout
Is that enough to get you going?
Well, gym exercise program doesn't cut for me---------
But it could cut for you.
Remember, just do what sounds or you have the most fun doing!
That's the key.
Do it correctly as well.
And get a trainer to guide you by.
You'll see and achieve results!
