How To Put On Weight?

by Anonymous

I have been hitting Gym for some time now and have a good diet, however I find it difficult to put on some weight. No matter how hard I try, there's no variation in my body mass? Please advice what I should do? Are there any special supplements I can take in order to increase my mass?

My Answer

Putting on weight is not just a matter of eating more calories than burning them off.

You know, the "street" formula always tells you that if you want to gain weight, you must eat more calories than you burn.

So, lots of people just take this on the surface, go ahead with eating more, more and more calories but don't really care about the content and nutrient of the food eaten.

Hence, in most cases, fatty food and unhealthy snacks are order of the day.

This kind of eating normally adds only fat and not muscle. Fat is unhealthy and takes up more space in your body, making you look "flabby".

To put on weight, the weight would have to come from lean muscle mass, not from fat. Lean muscle mass is compact and denser, so weighs more than fat.

So the weight you're "chasing" after would be more in the form of lean muscle weight, not fat weight.

How to gain muscle weight?

Do weights. This is the most direct way to build up your lean muscle mass in your body. Like I said before, muscle is denser so naturally the more lean muscle mass you build, the heavier you will weigh.

Supplements are not as good as natural foods. You only take them when the nutrients in the natural foods you eat are not sufficient for your body's need.

Eat more natural, wholesome nutrient-dense foods like lean protein, foods rich in fiber, eggs, lean meat and of course good fats (unsaturated fat, monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat)to repair and build muscle in your body.

If you really must eat supplements, I reckon L Glutamine (in moderate amount), Creatine Monohydrate or a good protein powder minus all artificial flavorings, sweeteners and colors, would be good choices to start off.

I have written a page on how to gain weight here.

Hope it can help you more in this area.
