Low Fat Snacks That Are Rich In Nutrients & Low In Glycermic Index

Healthy Snacking is Good

And low fat snacks that are healthy ones help maintain your energy, blood sugar and appetite levels.

They can control hunger pangs and keep you from taking 2nd or 3rd helpings at your next meal. As a result, you may actually consume fewer calories for the day.

However, if you snack on unhealthy foods high in sugar and fat, they don't sate you because your body digests and absorbs them quickly into the bloodstream, elevating your blood sugar levels and then causing them to plummet.

The result? You become lethargic, sluggish and moody and also hungry in no time.

Yes, fat in snacks provides flavor, mouth feel, texture, structure, shelf life and tempting appearance.

But we all know it's a health risk because it increases the risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease and stroke.

So, go for healthy snacks that are low in fat.

Smart Snacks

I've some smart snacks here, without the fat, which you can go for a boost, any time of the day in between meals.

  1. Dried Fruits
  2. A fistful or a tablespoon of this is indeed a good, healthy low fat snack as it's low in glycermic index, meaning you absorb it slowly into the bloodstream and you feel full longer.

Dried figs, apricots, kiwi fruit, apple, etc are some good ones I constantly dip into.

  3. Raw Vegetables
  4. Any idea what raw vegetables you can eat?

Carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, mushrooms, lettuce, pepper......

Dip them in reduced fat hummus or salsa. Mmmm.....They taste great! Or make a veggie salad with dashes of lemon juice and low fat salad dressing.

Vegetables are high in antioxidants, rich in vitamins & minerals and have low, low calories.

  5. Healthy Nuts
  6. Peanuts, cashew nuts, Brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, etc.

    Non-fried, non-oiled forms, OK?

They already taste superb on their own account.

As they're high in calories, watch out your snacking of them. A couple of them is your limit.

  7. Seeds
  8. Sunflower and pumpkin seeds are good ones to sustain you for a longer time before you feel hungry again because they're high in protein (omega-3 fatty acids).

  9. Low Fat Yogurt
  10. This is one of my most favorite low fat snacks. A small tub of 150 gram of yogurt can make you feel full instantly and provide decent dose of calcium as well, for your bone's wellness.

  11. Rice Cakes Garnished With Low Fat Cheese
  12. Uhm....mmmm......Yummy, yummy, yummy! It's also rich in calcium, for your bone building.

  13. whole Grain Cereal Or Porridge
  14. These low fat snacks are high in fiber and rich in minerals. A bowl is enough to take away your hunger.

  15. Vegetable, Lentil, Tomato or Pumpkin Soups
  16. Low fat, rich in vitamins & minerals. 1 small bowl can go a long way for you before you feel hungry again.

Many more Healthy Snacks for your Picking

Ha! These are not the only low fat snacks you can dig into!

Many more are on the plate for you.

Like fresh fruits.

Baked tortilla chips.

A whole-grain bagel topped with natural peanut butter.

Medium-sized bran muffin.

Chipped tuna and chopped celery, tossed with low-fat mayonnaise

Pita bread stuffed with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and low-fat dressing

Hard-boiled egg with a dash of salt and pepper or a smear of mustard.

Ready-to-eat whole grain cereal with soy milk.

And more.......

OK. Eating low fat snacks doesn’t mean you lose out on the flavor and taste.

You still get to enjoy and relish your snacks without the "fat" guilt.

How? Go for healthy snacks that pack powerful doses of nutrients into you and also fill you up soonest.
