Do lower back stretches and you're making a tremendous "investment" for your lower back. What's the "returns" on that investment? Plenty. The stretches loosen up your lower back muscles, increase their elasticity and improve your posture! Good returns, huh? I believe it's best to do your stretches right after you've toned your lower back . This is because post toning, your lower back muscles are still warm from the exercise, hence in more pliable condition and can be stretched more extensively. How frequent you need to do the stretches? I think 3 sessions per week, the same as your toning routine for lower back, will do just fine for you.
For all the stretches here, breathe deeply all the way through each stretch Stretch Exercise 1 Lie on back on a mat, your legs bent and heels drawn up close to your buttocks. Exhale, hold your knees, pull your legs in toward your chest, using light pressure to hold the position for a while. Relax. Repeat. Stretch Exercise 2 Get down on all your fours on the mat, your thighs at a 90-degree angle to your torso. Exhale, lower your buttocks down to your heels while your arms are extended out before you. Hold this position for a while. Relax. Repeat. Stretch Exercise 3 Lie on your back on the mat, your legs bent, heels drawn up close to your buttocks. Exhale, push your pelvis in and down so that the curve of your waist is flattened. Hold this position for a while. Relax. Repeat.
