How does exercise work to reduce your stress? First off, exercise helps control your stress. I exercise regularly. Every time after I've exercised, I feel fantastic and on top of things. For one thing, I feel so good about myself - feel good about my health, my body, my fitness, my well being......and the fact that I do the exercise! Well, it's believed that the "feel good" stuff is because of chemicals called neurotransmitters produced in your brain, are stimulated during exercise.
These neurotransmitters mediate your moods and emotions, so they can make you feel better and less stressed.
For another thing, I feel so energised and full of zest, ready to battle the day ahead! And I think the coolest thing is that I'm in excellent health - I hardly fall sick. This alone takes away a lot of my stress! Sickness can be a very stressful thing in life, you know.......
Like I said earlier, I always feel good about myself after a session of exercise. You would feel the same too after relieving stress by exercise. This feeling of self-worth brings positive changes in your outlook on life and is one of the best ways to relieve stress. Many neurotransmitters and endorphins are involved in an exercise session. The great thing they do - they improve your mood and leave you relaxed.
From one exercise session alone, you can expect to generate 90 to 120 minutes of relaxation response.
Isn't it a great way of relieving stress by exercise?
Exercise provides an outlet for you to discharge off those bottled up anxieties and frustrations as it relaxes your body and mind to veer you away from the problems. I find that this is true as whenever I'm anxious or frustrated, a round of exercise can sufficiently calm me down.
If you exercise regularly, you'll also be conscious of what you eat, so you tend to take a more balanced, nutritious diet. A balanced nutritious diet helps you to better manage your stress too.
Now that you know relieving stress by exercise works and exercise can make a huge difference in controlling your stress, make some time for regular exercise. Do cardio - all you take is 20-30 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week. It'll help you to control your stress significantly. Try Pilates . It relaxes your mind, strengthens your muscles, increases your flexibility and to top it all, invigorates your brain. When doing Pilates, your brain receives a signal to release specific neurotransmitters, which in turn makes you feel relaxed and more alert. Participate in recreational sports like squash, tennis, racquetball or volleyball. These sports require the kinds of vigorous activities that rid your body off stress-causing adrenaline and other hormones.
Don't exercise in your office! I'm serious.... Don't even consider your corporate fitness center as it can have many work-related issues for you.
You'll be more stressed than relaxed......
Or even consider going to a crowded gym, where you may have to wait for your turn to exercise, to use the exercise equipment...
You'd be on thin nerves waiting for your turn.....
The best place to exercise is a stress-free environment like outdoor or away from your office. Your home and your home gym can be the best stress-free place for you to exercise. If you work alone, you'd want to exercise in a group to enjoy the social relationship with people. You know, by the mere act of socialising, you're already de-stressing yourself!
You want exercise or you want stress?
Honestly, I think exercise is any time better than stress..... So exercise. It can help you to relieve and control your stress.
Have a stree-free life!
